It is one of the most common acute infectious bacterial diseases caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes type A. The source of infection is a person who spreads the disease through droplets or direct contact. That is why the disease can start on the mucous membranes but also through injured skin. The incubation period is a maximum of 4 days. Typical manifestations are sore throat, high temperatures and the appearance of small rashes, which are most often located in the groin, lower abdomen, armpits and inner thighs. There is also redness on the face with discoloration around the mouth, there may be cracks and inflammation in the corners of the mouth. A raspberry-like tongue and small red spots on the palate are also typical. Later, peeling of the skin on the palms and soles is associated. Possible complications of an untreated disease are rheumatic fever and inflammation of the kidneys. After the diagnosis is established, the first choice is therapy with general antibiotics.
